Eyes Of The Day

I did this look today.  I was just doing grocery shopping, cleaning, running errands, and working on posts.  So, I wanted a natural, day look.

Products used:

-  Wet N Wild - Walking On Eggshells

-  Rimmel Scandal Eyes Kohl Liner Waterproof - Taupe

-  Maybelline The Rocket Mascara

I used the bottom shade on the lid, the middle shade in the crease, and the light shade on the brow bone and inner corner.

I used the Rimmel liner on the upper lash line, and used two coats of the rocket.  It was a fast and easy look.

Face Of The Day

I had some new products that I wanted to try out to see what kind of look I could create.  Here is what I used:

Face - Live Love Dew Sheer Dew Face Cream, Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer - 001, Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles - Brightener, Maybelline Instant Eraser Dark Circles - Neutralizer, NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator -Gleam, NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face - Sunny, NYX Powder Blush - PB29 Amber, Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder, Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Pencil - 018 Addiction, NYX Matte Lipstick - MLS11 Tea Rose

Eyes - E.L.F. Eyelid Primer, Urban Decay Stardust Shadow - Moon Spoon, E.L.F Baked Shadow - Dusk, Rimmel Glam Eyes HD -005 English Rose, Urban Decay 24/7 Slide On Pencil- 1999, Maybelline The Rocket Mascara - Black, Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Waterproof - Very Black, Maybelline Define-A-Brow Pencil - Medium Brown, Maybelline Great Lash Clear.

When using a glittery shade, as I did on the lid, I recommend doing your eye makeup first.  This will avoid fall out on your foundation.  First, start with a primer.  I only paid $1 for this E.L.F. primer, and it does a great job.  So, take a flat eye shadow brush or applicator and pat the glittery color onto your lid.  If you swipe it, it will become a mess.  For the crease shade I used the E.LF. baked shadow.  I applied it dry, and you can see how pigmented it is.  I used a crease brush and applied this on the crease, focusing on the outer third.  The key here is blending.  If you end up blending too much, you can always go back and add a little more.  Especially with dark colors, if you don't blend, you will look like you painted on raccoon eyes.  Next, I took the lightest shade from my Rimmel glam eyes palette.  I applied it on my brow bone, and inner corners.  Again, blend out the lines.  This shade had a satin finish, but no shimmer.  Then, I applied my liner, on top and bottom lash line.  I followed with 3 coats of mascara.  One coat of the Cover Girl, and two of the Maybelline.    You do not have to use these exact colors.  Choose from a color palette that you own, and try your own look.  Just remember, use the medium shade on the lid, dark shade in the crease, and light shade on brow bone and inner corner.

Now moving on to the face, I applied a thin layer of my Rimmel primer over my moisturizer.  Next, I applied my foundation with my Sigma F80 brush.  Your foundation is so important.  If your skin doesn't look good, then nothing else will either.  So, take your time blending.  Bring it down onto your neck, and make sure you have the right shade for your skin.  I use my under eye concealer next.  First, I  used the Maybelline neutralizer.  I tapped that in with my fingers.  The warmth of the fingers, help melt the product into your skin.  After that, I used the Maybelline brightener.  When I use concealer, I apply it as an upside down triangle under my eyes, come down the face.  You can also apply it in a half moon shape, if you like.  I tap the the brightener in with my fingers as well.  Next, I used the NYX Liquid Illuminizer.  I applied a small amount with my fingers, onto the cheekbone.  This product gives a nice sheen to the skin, without the shimmer.  I applied this before blush or contour, because you want to use your cream products before your powder ones.  Otherwise, you can easily get a cake face.  Then, I applied my NYC Bronzer.  This is a great contour without any shimmer.  It's a steal too at only $2.99!  You can find this at most drugstores and discount stores.  I used my Real Techniques Contour brush for this application.  Many people are interested in contouring, but aren't sure how to do it.  It really is quite easy.  I apply my contour at the places on my face that I want to recede.  Highlight goes on the areas that you want to bring out, and contour on the places that you want to sink in.  The middle of your face should be highlighted, while the outside should be contoured.  So, think of contouring in a 3 shape.  Sweep contour on the forehead by the hairline.  Bring it down and do a line that starts at the hairline, above the ear, and bring the line half way out under your cheekbone.  Next, contour your jawline.  Starting at the bottom of the earlobe and bringing it toward the chin.  This will help if you have a slight double chin.  I also use an eyeshadow brush and contour the sides of my nose.  Using a highlight down the bridge of my nose.  When contouring, blending is your best friend, so go back and blend out any lines.  You don't want to look like you have war paint on your face!  Contouring and highlighting only takes a minute or two, but it makes a huge difference.  You don't have to do your entire face, like the diagram does.  It's up to you.  Then, I applied my NYX Blush to the apples of my cheeks, and blended it with my contour.  I powdered my face, after this step.  Moving on, I lined my lips and filled them in, then applied my lipstick....and voila, I'm done!

Doing a look like this, obviously takes more than a few minutes.  It is fun for an evening out or special event.  So, next time you want to do something a little special, give yourself some extra time, get a refreshing drink, turn on your music, and make some time for yourself.  As long as I'm not rushed, I really enjoy the getting ready process.  It relaxes me, and makes me feel better.  When you are confident about the way you look, you will automatically have a better day!!

August Purchases & Reviews

-  Maybelline Color Show Polish - 440 Clear
I really like this polish.  I use it as a base coat and top coat.  It leaves a nice shine, and it really extends my polish.

-  Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles - Neutralizer
I love the illuminator, so I wanted to try the neutralizer as well.  I use this under my eyes, before the brightener.  I stipple it on with my Sigma F80 brush, or tap it in with your fingers.  You don't want to rub it in.  You won't get as good a coverage.  The neutralizer can also be used on dark spots or blemishes.  I really like this concealer.  It isn't heavy, yet has good coverage.  It also doesn't crease on me.

-  Rimmel Fix And Perfect Primer - I had heard some good things about this primer, so I thought I should give it a try.  I agree!  This is a great drugstore primer, with a great price.  A little goes a long way, so don't apply too much.  It smoothed out my skin, kept my makeup in place all day, and even helped control oil.  I would definitely repurchase.

-  Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner - 018 Addiction
These are my absolute favorite lip liners!   These have great staying power, and have a creamy texture.
They really prolong my lipstick.

-  Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Liner - 004 Taupe
I have talked about the scandal eyes liners before.  I didn't have this color in my collection.  This is a great, neutral day color.  These don't budge, and will last all day!  Great for the water line.

-  Pure DKNY Perfume
I have been eyeing this perfume for a long time.  When I found it on clearance at Target, I had to buy it.  It was regularly $43, and I got it for $12.  I really like it.  It has a soft vanilla scent to it.  I like vanilla and spicier scents for the cooler months.

-  Simple Gel Face Wash - I have liked every single product that I have tried from this line, and this face wash is no exception.  It is very gentle on the skin, and does the job well without drying out your skin or making it feel tight.

-  Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick - 065 Hooked On Pink - I really love this line of lipsticks.  They offer 68 shades of creamy, rich color.  They are comfortable on the lips, and I have never bought a color that I did't like.  You can't go wrong with these!

-  Urban Decay Stardust Shadow - Moon Spoon - This is my second Stardust shadow.  These shadows are beautiful!  They add that something extra to any look.  I love these on the lid.  There is definitely glitter in this, but it is a very fine glitter.  When applying, do your eyes first to avoid any glittery fall out.  These are great for a special night out!  The price has been dropped, so I don't know if they are going to discontinue these, or if they are coming out with new colors.

-  Urban Decay 24 Hour Slide On Pencil - 1999 - The liner's are super popular, and I see why. They are creamy, have great pigmentation, and staying power.  This line offers a large array of colors to choose from.  So, you are sure to find a color you love!

-  Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm - 400 Lilac Love
I prefer lipstick over lipgloss, but I really love these glosses!  These are moisturizing, and not sticky at all.  I hate a tacky feeling gloss.  This color has nice pigmentation.  You can wear it alone or over lipstick.  I wear mine over my Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, and it looks great.  With a lip liner, this combo is long lasting, as well.

-  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - 463 Sassy Mauve - I purchased and reviewed my first Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick last month.  I was so pleased, that I went back for another one.  Sassy Mauve is a lighter version of my previous purchase.  I wanted more of a wearable daytime color.  I was not disappointed.  I love this one, too!  It definitely has a purple hue to it.  I used my Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm over this shade, for extra shine.  Great combo!

-  NYX Blush - PB29 Amber - I love this blush!  It is a deeper, neutral color.  It looks so pretty, and could be paired with any color and any look.  It's very pigmented, versatile, and flattering.  I think it would look great no matter your hair color or skin tone.

-  NYX Matte Lipstick - MLS11 Tea Rose - This is my first NYX Matte Lipstick purchase.  Matte lipsticks aren't easy to find, so I was glad to see that NYX had a line of them.  These aren't as moisturizing, as say Revlon's Super Lustrous, but with a matte finish, I didn't expect it to be.  I put my live love dew moisturizer on my lips, as I do under all my lipsticks, and it stayed creamier.  I really like the color, and will definitely purchase more.

-  BH Cosmetics Blush Duo - Iris - I just recently received an email from BH Cosmetics about their new blushes.  These are two toned blushes.  A darker matte shade, and a lighter shade with a little shimmer.  You could wear these separately or swirl your blush brush over the two shades.  I used both shades.  This was very pigmented, so make sure you don't use too much.  There are 5 colors in total...tulip, lilac, rose, iris, and daisy.  I chose iris, because I wanted a darker shade for fall.  These are regularly $9.95, but are on special now for $4.95.

-  Up And Up Nail Polish Drying Spray - I do my nails one or twice a week.  So, I appreciate anything that makes my manicure easier.  This spray did help my nails to dry faster, and it smells like baby powder.  You can find this at Target.

-  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - 310 Slick Slate

-  Wet N Wild Mega Last Nail Polish - 216B Under Your Spell

-  Wet N Wild Fast Dry Nail Polish - 229C Ebony Hates Chris

Since I do my nails once or twice a week, it will take me awhile to try these colors.  I will review them together, with a few colors that I bought last month, that I still need to try.  If you have been wanting to try any of these brands or products, I hope this review helped.  Hope you're  having a great week!

August Ipsy Glam Bag Products & Review

This month Ipsy did a great job on their glam bags!  I got a nice variety of good to great products.  All were new to me except for one.  I did receive one full size product, that retails for $14.95.  So, all of my products, including the actual bag, cost me a third less than the full size product that I received!  I subscribed in April.  I got my first bag in May, and I have been very pleased.  If you aren't sure how Ipsy works, I made a previous blog post about it, that will give you all the details.

This Month's Products:

-  Michael Todd True Organics - Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask

-  Pixi Lash Boost Mascara - Black

-  Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

-  MICA Beauty Cosmetics Shimmer Powder - Bronze

-  Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick - 69

Michael Todd Pumpkin Nutrient Facial Mask - I have heard so many great things about this brand on youtube, and have been wanting to give it a try.  This is an organic line, that caters to all skin types.  This mask said it is good for all skin types, except sensitive.  I definitely have sensitive skin, but decided to give it a whirl, and see what happens.  It isn't a thick mask, like a clay mask.  It is quite thin, and smells pretty strong of pumpkin (which I love).  I applied it to my entire face and neck.  Once it was on, I quickly got a burning feeling on my skin.  I thought, OH NO!!  I'm not a baby about pain, so I thought I would give it a minute to see what happens.  After about 60 seconds, the burning went away.  I left it on for 10 minutes.  When I took it off my skin felt very smooth and moisturized.  I saw improved texture immediately.  Even though it burned initially, it did not leave any redness or irritation behind.  I really like this, but it's very iffy for sensitive skin. I received a 1 ounce sample, and I think it will last me a very long time.  It retails for $34 for 3.4 ounces.

Pixi Lash Boost Mascara - I have seen this product forever at my Target store.  It would be considered drugstore makeup, though it is definitely pricey for a drugstore brand.  This is my first time trying anything from their line.  This mascara has a traditional wand, and a very wet formula.  It did a good job lengthening and separating my lashes.  It is a good mascara, but the formula is a little too wet for my liking.  Maybe after a few weeks of it drying out a bit, would help it.  I don't think that I would purchase this though.  For a drugstore mascara, it is expensive, and there are a lot of other drugstore mascara's that I like a lot better.  It retails for $17.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer - This is not my first time trying this product.  I used it about a year ago or so.  This is an oil free primer, that has grape seed extract, green tea, and vitamins A & E in it.  It has a very smooth and silicone feeling texture to it.  It glides on the skin.  I really do like this primer.  It makes my skin look very smooth, and it definitely prolongs the wear of my makeup.  You only need to use a very small amount.  You can use it after your daily moisturizer or just on it's own under your foundation.  This primer is a favorite in the Smashbox brand, and it has won several beauty awards.  It retails for $36.

MICA Beauty Cosmetics Shimmer Powder - This is my first time trying anything from this company.  This shadow is free of preservatives, chemicals, talc, oil, dyes, and other fillers.  I was so glad to get this, because I have been wanting a loose pigment type shadow.  This color is so pretty, and great for a summer bronzed glow!  I used a color tattoo under it.  You will want some base on the lid before using this.  Otherwise, it won't last as long and may have a lot of fall out.  The color has the prettiest shimmer in it.  You could also use this to dust over the high points of your face, as a highlighter.  There were 36 shades available on their site, 20 of which they call day shades.  I did receive a full size in my bag. They retail for $14.95.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick - This is a new product for Urban Decay that I had heard a lot about.  So, I was excited to test it out.  I got a deep red color.  It's not a shade that I would have chosen.  I just wore red lipstick for the first time over the 4th of July.  I think red lips are pretty, but I'm on the fence as far as the color working for me.  It is moisturizing and long wearing.  It has jojoba oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter in it.  The color is very pigmented as well.  After I took it off, my lips were stained red.  I do feel that it is a little tacky on the lips.  The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick is much creamier than this formula, but it doesn't last as long.  Would I purchase this for myself?  Possibly, if I found a different color that I really liked.  They offer 22 shades in this collection, and it retails for $22.

Health Tip Of The Week - Eat More Meals At Home

I know that in today's busy world, it is convenient to order in, go through a drive-thru, or stop for a quick bite.  But there is a price to be paid for convenience.  Not only will you be spending more on your food budget, but you will also be paying for it with your health, weight, and family time.  Back in my mom's day, women cooked at home and ate at the same time every night, the family sat down to a meal.  They talked about their day, or upcoming plans.  They joked, laughed, and connected with each other over their meal.  Somewhere along the way, this was lost.  In most homes today, both parent's are working, if there are two parent's in the home.  Longer hours at work, lead to stress and exhaustion, which leads to less family time.  Even if the entire family does go out to dinner, so there is more time to talk, you are taking a gamble with your weight and health.  Portion sizes today, are so out of whack.  When you order dinner at a restaurant or fast food place, your portion will be at least two to three times bigger than it should, and you will more than likely eat all of it or most of it. The CDC has actually reported that restaurant food portions are FOUR times bigger than they were in the 1950's.   Also, when someone else is preparing yours and your families food, you have no control over what goes in it.  Restaurant food has extra sugar, sodium, and fat.  They are in a business to make money, and these ingredients are pleasing to most people.  They want it to be good, and addictive, so you will be sure to come back.

Am I saying you should never go out to eat?  No, that's not even almost realistic.  I eat out plenty myself, but there are some things you can do to make the experience a more healthy one.  First, go somewhere where they offer a lighter, healthier menu.  If you aren't sure if the restaurant offers one, check their website before heading out.  Many restaurants do offer their nutritional values on their website as well.  Immediately, order a glass of water.  Preferably, with lemon.  Cold water with lemon, helps to increase your metabolism, while filling up your belly to make you full.  Also, politely ask the server not to bring your table any bread or chips, while you are waiting for your food.  This is just mindless eating that will end up being a few hundred extra calories.  If possible, split a meal with someone at your table.  I bet you will find that you are full on only half.  If you can't split, then ask the server to bring you a to go box, when they bring your meal.  Immediately, put half of your dinner in the container.  Even if there isn't a light menu, ask for what you need.  Order your food to be made without oil or butter.  Ask for butter, sour cream, or dressing on the side.  It's your food.  You have to eat it, and pay for it, so you should get it the way you want.  What's more important...being less of a nuisance, or helping yourself live a healthier life?

Start taking a more active role in your families health and quality time.  Plan your meals.  Ask them what they would enjoy having that week.  If possible, include your kids in meal preparation.  Not only is it more time together, but they are more likely to eat something that they helped prepare.  Make meal time a family event, that everyone can look forward to.  No cellphones or electronics.  Just communicating with one another.  Is my house like this every single night?  No, but I do my best.  I plan our meals every week, and do my best to get everything to come together.  You can't do it on your own, though.  It takes the help of everyone to get it to come together.

Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

-  Bold Eyes (Cat & Smokey)

The smokey eye has been a popular look for a long time.  To help create this look, use a darker eyeshadow base, such as a color tattoo or paint pot.  If you don't have either, you can substitute a dark gel liner for the base.  I prefer to line my eyes with a kohl liner on top and bottom.  I also smudge and set the liner with a shadow overtop of it.

The cat eye is a classic eye look.  So many classic, beauty icons have adored this sexy look.  I have to say, of all the beauty techniques that I have learned, this one has been the hardest.  It takes time and practice, but there are a few tricks.  Do the eyes first, especially if you are starting out.  This way you can clean up your mistakes, without affecting the rest of your makeup.   You will get the best results with liquid or gel liner, though I prefer gel.  Use a thin liner brush and line your upper lash line.  For the flick, line the brush up with your lower lash line, at the corner of your eye.  Draw the line as if it were extending the lower lash line up.  Have the flick come to a point at the end.  Then go back and connect the flick to the top liner, making the liner thicker at the outer corner, and thinner at the inner corner.  I like to put the gel liner on the inside waterline of the inner corner.  If you make a mistake, keep a cotton swab and eye makeup remover handy, (but don't use the oil based eye remover).  Dip the cotton swab in the remover and fix any mistakes you may have.  This works as an eraser.  Then, you can do your foundation, and concealer to clean up the liner even more.  It takes practice, so be patient.

- Bold Lips (Red, Burgundy, Pink)

I love a bold lip!  I do pink all of the time, but just recently started experimenting with red.  With deep and bold shades, use a lip liner.  The lips have to be lined well to keep colors from moving and bleeding.  Plus, any mistake applying a dark shade, will definitely be noticed.  A lip liner helps keep the color in the lines.  To make lipstick last longer, line the entire lip.  You can also apply foundation to your lips, before lining and filling in.

-  Matte Skin and Minimal Makeup

I prefer a satin to matte finish for the skin, so I'm loving this trend!  I have noticed that several matte foundations have recently come out on the market.  Keep your skin type in mind.  If you are very dry, some matte foundations may attach to dry patches and cause flaking.  Try a day moisturizer underneath.    Be careful with the under eye area.  If you have fine lines or wrinkles, try a creamier concealer in this area.

-  Metallic Lids

Metallic eyeshadow is so pretty, especially for an evening look.  I love a metallic silver, copper, or bronze.  Try an eye pigment.  These usually have a lot of light reflecting properties.  Make sure you use a primer or eyeshadow base first.  The pigment is loose, and needs something to attach to for a long lasting look.

-  Bright Eyeliner

I started using bright eyeliners over the summer, and I really like them.  If you are a little hesitant, just line the upper or lower lash line.  If you line the lower lash line, apply black or brown to the top lash line.  Liner on the lower lash line only, is not flattering.  You can wear a liner only on the upper lash line, though.

-  Contoured Cheeks

I love a contoured face!  For a more sculpted look, start your bronzer, at the hairline, just above the ear. Bring the contour diagonally down toward the outer corner of your mouth, but stop when you are under the middle of your eye.  Do NOT bring it all the way to your mouth.  It's just unflattering and unnatural.  Also, opt for a matte bronzer with no shimmer at all.  I contour all of my face most of the time.  I will do a contouring post soon, because it makes a huge difference!

-  Strong Brows

I have very strong opinions about brows.  So, many women have problems with theirs, so here are a few tips.  Many women ignore their eyebrows all together.  This is a huge mistake!  Your eyebrows are the frame to your picture....your face!  So many women over pluck as well.  If there is one way to make yourself look older instantly, it's having brows that are too thin or drawn on.  Brow shapes come and go, like any other trend.  Try to make yours as natural as possible.  Here is a quick way to begin shaping your brows.  Take a pencil or the handle of an eyeshadow brush, line it vertically on each side of your nose.  Where the pencil hits between the eyes, is where your brows should start.  The arch should start above the pupil of your eye.  Take the pencil and line it up at the tip of your nose vertically,  and move it on the diagonal across your eye towards the temple.  This is where it should end.  Fill them in using a pencil or shadow, but shadow tends to look more natural.  Don't draw them in trying to make a shape that they aren't.  If you have unruly brows, use a clear gel to set them.

-  Tight Lining

I didn't always tight line, but I really do like it.  If you have sensitive eyes or wear contacts, opt for a hypoallergenic liner.  You will also need one that is waterproof.  To achieve this look, line the inner rims of your eye.  You can do upper and lower rims, or just one or the other.  Lining the upper lid, is known as invisible liner.  It defines the eye, and gives the illusion of a thicker lash line.  For the lower line, I use the traditional black or brown, but I also use a nude liner.  The darker liner, gives a more dramatic look.  If you have smaller eyes, you may not want to tight line both rims.  It could make your eyes appear smaller.  A nude liner, gives the appearance of an awake look, that refreshes the eye.  Rimmel Scandal Eyes has a great nude liner that is waterproof.

-  Red Nails & Neutral Nails

Red nails are a classic, and nude nails give a natural, fresh look.  I love them both, but there are so many shades to choose from!  Look for shades that compliment your skin tone.

-  Graffiti Nails

This is a new trend for nails.  If you do your nails yourself, it is easiest to get this look by using the manicure stick ons.  Sally Hansen and Essie sell them at most drugstores.  These stickers are supposed to last at least a week.

Hopefully, there are one or two makeup trends that you would like to try.  Experiment with them, and have some fun with your makeup.  It's always fun to try a new look!

Health Tip Of The Week - Getting Your Sleep

Insomnia is a problem that I have faced for over ten years.  It was severe for seven of those years.  It started while I was on bed rest with my son, and it has never completely went away.  The longest that I was ever awake was almost 60 hours.  I still wasn't tired, but my husband made me sleep, because he was afraid that I would start hallucinating.  In other words, I've been there.  I know many other people are there now.  The CDC has reported that insufficient sleep is now a public health epidemic!  We are falling asleep in the middle of our jobs, and while driving, all too often.  Adults require 7 - 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep.  Children require even more.

I have noticed that if a stick to a sleep routine and schedule, I have less sleep problems.  I am a natural night owl.  I HATE going to bed early!  I like to do all sorts of things, other than sleep.  Plus, typically I can get a lot of work done, but I have to force myself to do certain things.  Otherwise, I won't sleep and I won't be capable of a complete thought, by the next day.  My patience becomes nonexistent.  I snap at everyone, I feel absolutely horrible.  If I go too long without sleep, I get physically ill.  So, here are a few tips that I have researched and tried myself.  Some may work for you, and some may not, but you have to start somewhere.

-  Keep A Regular Schedule:  set a regular bedtime, and go to bed at that time every night, even weekends.  Wake up at the same time everyday, as well.  If you need to make up for lost sleep, take a daytime nap, don't sleep later.  Set a nap limit of 30 minutes.

-  Naturally Regulate Your Sleep Cycle:  Remove sunglasses in the morning, and let the sunlight hit your face.  Spend more time outside during the day.  Also, let light into your home and work space.  This is important, because melatonin is controlled by light exposure.  Have as much light as possible during the day, and as little light as possible in the evening before bed.  Your brain will secrete more of this hormone, when you don't have light, therefore making you tired.  So, in the evening, turn off your tv and computer.  Change out bright light bulbs, and make sure your bedroom is dark.

-  Create A Bedtime Routine:  Having an evening routine, tells your brain that it is time to relax and prepare for sleep.  Keep noises down in your bedroom.  If you can't avoid the noise, try to mask it with a fan, soothing sounds, or a white noise.  You can buy a sleep machine to help with this.  Keep your room cool.  65 degrees, is considered to be the optimal temperature.  Also, make sure your bed is comfortable.  It should be big enough to comfortably move around, and also be firm enough to support you.

-  Healthy Eating And Proper Exercise:  Stay away from big meals at night.  Stop eating 2 hours before bedtime, so your body doesn't keep you awake while digesting.  Avoid alcohol at night.  While it can help you to fall asleep, it can disrupt your sleep, waking you up several times a night.  Cut down on your caffeine intake. It can disrupt your sleep even 10 - 12 hours after your last caffeinated beverage!  Avoid drinking too much at night.  Water, juice, tea, and other fluids will result in frequent trips to the bathroom.  Another tip, quit smoking!  Nicotine is a stimulant, that will disrupt your sleep.  Smokers also experience withdrawal symptoms, making it hard to sleep.  if you exercise 30 minutes a day, you are likely to sleep more deeply.  Exercising late in the day, can stimulate  the body, keeping you from rest.  Don't lay on the couch all night though.  Gentle yoga or stretching can be a good evening routine.

-  Control Your Stress And Anxiety:  This seems easier said than done, but there are some relaxation techniques that you can use to lower your stress levels.  Try deep breathing.  Close your eyes, and take deep, slow breaths.  Make each breath deeper, than the one before.  Another helpful technique is muscle relaxation.  Starting at the toes, tense your muscles as tight as you can, then completely relax.  Work your way up to the top of your head.  Lastly, visualize a peaceful, restful place.  I call this my "happy place".  It's different for everyone.  Some may see themselves relaxing on a secluded beach. Others may envision a peaceful lake by the mountains.  Mine has always been me laying in a calm field of yellow flowers, with a slight breeze, and the sun warming my body.  This is also the same happy place that I see when I am working out, and think that I just can't do another set or rep.

-  How To Get Back To Sleep:  Even the best sleepers, occasionally wake up and have a hard time getting back to sleep.  Stay out of your head.  Don't start worrying or stressing about things that you can't take care of at 3 am.  Focus on relaxing, not sleeping.  Try one of the relaxation techniques, that I just discussed.  If you have been awake for more than 15 minutes, do a quiet, non-stimulating activity, such as reading a book.  Keep the lights dim, so your body doesn't think that it's time to wake up.  Do not turn on the tv or any other electronic.

If you are having difficulty sleeping, try a few of these techniques.  I have found that towards the end of my night, taking a long bath with soft music, and then having a small cup of tea while reading a book definitely helps me.  Tea makes me have to go to the bathroom, so I do limit it to a small cup of decaf.  I hope you can find your own sleep routine, and get a peaceful night's rest every night.

LOTD - Girl's Day To Date Night

This was on a busy day.  I was spending the day out with my mom....shopping, lunch, and errands.  In the evening, I had a date with my husband.  I wanted to look presentable during the day, but not have to go home and redo my makeup, and put another outfit together.  So, as always, I planned ahead.  I decided to use one eyeshadow palette, that I could build on for an evening look, and just changed out the accessories on my outfit to make it evening appropriate.

I kept my makeup pretty basic.  I wanted a foundation from which I could build an evening look.  I did the top right color, on my lid, and the 3rd color on the left, in the outer corner.
I chose the Wet N Wild products for my eyes and cheeks.  For my lips, Maybelline Color Sensational - 135 Make Me Pink.

Wet N Wild 8 Pan Palette- Petal Pusher.  You can find this at Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid.  It retails for $4.99.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush - Heather Silk.  You can also find this blush at Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid.  It retails for $2.99.

For my evening look, I just added a few things.  First, I applied the black eye shadow shade (bottom right), on the outer corner.  I added black kohl liner on the top and bottom lash line.  I used the same black shadow to smudge over the liner.  I added a bit of the Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush in Shimmering Berry to the apples of my cheeks.  For a more dramatic lip, I used Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in 065 - Hooked On Pink.  This is a beautiful color that I just bought.  It is actually more berry than pink.  I finished with a coat of mascara.

I didn't change my outfit, just my accessories.  I replaced my diamond pendant with a large, gray statement necklace.  I also switched my sandals out for a pair of red high heels.

We didn't do anything special, just went to a movie.  Taking a few extra minutes on myself, makes me feel better, and it doesn't hurt when your spouse tells you that you look nice, and that he likes your shoes (I don't think he usually notices my shoes)!

My shoes are Guess.  I bought them at TJ Maxx.  I think they were $24.99.  My necklace is from ourworldboutique.com.  I purchased it for $7.99.  I have bought several necklaces from them, and have been pleased with all of them.  They have great prices, and fast shipping.  I buy a lot of accessories online, because of their uniqueness and quality.  Their necklaces do not look like they cost less than $10.00!  As you can see, you don't have to spend a lot to put together a great outfit and makeup look.
