Health Tip Of The Week - Supporting Each Other and Making Friends

Why is it so hard to for women to make friends with other women?  Men don't seem to have this issue.  They bond quite easily.  The talk about the man basics....sports, cars, women, and voila, they have become friends!  It doesn't work this way with my gender.  Why are we so different when it comes to forming lasting friendships?  Is it because we require more of an emotional connection with others?  Is it because we are too judgmental?  Is it because we are more cautious?  Is it because we are more insecure about ourselves, and get jealous easily?  Are we too competitive with one another?  Are we untrusting because of a previous relationship?  I think it's a combination of all these things.

I had a conversation with my son the other day.  I told him that it is easy to find the most hated girl in the room, because she will be the prettiest girl in the room.  Is it really because she is so pretty, or is it really because we are so insecure with our own looks?  We can get so jealous when we view someone else as having something we don't, whether it is a successful career, happy marriage, great kids, a beautiful home, being too attractive, etc.  We chuck it up to them being lucky or privileged in some way.  Like they were born with an advantage that we didn't get.  Then, we will judge them, and decide we don't like them, no matter what they say or do.

Many women feel that men are the enemy, when in actuality we are our own worst enemies.  We don't hold men to the same standards that we hold ourselves to.  We want to have it all, and be it all, all of the time.   That's just not realistic.  I'm not perfect, you're not perfect, and that woman across the room that you don't like, because you view her as perfect.... well, she isn't either!  We all have struggles, issues, problems, and insecurities.  We all go through the same things at one point or another, yet we find it so hard to reach out to each other.  Instead of disliking someone because they are successful in an area that we aren't, why aren't we trying to make a friend with someone that we can learn something from?Someone who can help us in an area where we are lacking?  I guarantee you that once you get to know her, you will find that you have something to offer her as well.  An area in your life that you struggled with, but overcome.  Finding a friend who loves you, supports you, is happy for you when you succeed, yet will still be there to help pick you up when you don't, is a blessing.  But in order to have that kind of blessing, we need to be that blessing to someone else.  So, next time you find yourself making judgements about a woman you just met, ask yourself this...who is this really about, her or me? And if it is about me, then maybe there is something I can learn from her.  Maybe there is something she can learn from me, and in the process maybe, just maybe, we can form a lasting friendship that in some way can be a sort of healing and a blessing in both of our lives.

I have to say, I have few friends, and the ones I do have I have known my entire life or most of my life.  I haven't even been open to the idea of having a new friend, because of my own trust issues.  I have to keep this in the front of my mind, when meeting new people.  Me being closed off is because of my own issues of trust, not because they have proven to be untrustworthy.

How does having female friends increase our health?  According to a study done at UCLA, people who have no friends, increased their risk of death over a six month period.  Those who had the most friends over a 9 year period, decreased their risk of death by more than 60 percent.  A nurses health study from Harvard School of Medicine found that the more friends that women had, the less likely they were to develop physical ailments, and were more likely to live a joyful life.  In fact, researchers found that not having friends was as detrimental to your health as smoking or carrying extra weight.

Nails Of The Week

Trend Tips Real Lacquer Strips Sephora by O.P.I. - Snake Sparkle

These are half off now at Sephora.  I got them for only $6. They weren't the easiest thing I've ever done, but once I got to my second hand it went smoothly.  It just takes some time, patience, and getting used to.  I really like the look!  If you try these or any like them, make sure you don't pull on the strip when applying.  Read and follow the directions carefully.  They have them for the toes, as well.

Neutral Eye & Lip

I'm opposite of most people.  I don't typically use many neutral colors.  For some reason, I felt like it today, and liked it so much that I went to M.A.C and put together a neutral quad (I've never done that before).  Until today, I only had one single M.A.C. eye shadow.  I spent the morning out with my family, and then met a girlfriend for lunch and shopping.  This is the kind of look that is seasonless, and works on everyone.  This may be a lot for some of you for a day look, but you can always use a few less colors, or make them a little lighter.  You could just line the upper lash line, as well.  Customize it to your taste.  I also used a new foundation today.  I'll review it at the end of the month for my monthly purchase and review post.  I like to test foundation several times before reviewing it anyways.  So, here are all the products I used:

Face
Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind - Neutralizer
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer - Sunny
NYX Blush - Amber
Wet N Wild Coloricon - Reserve Your Cabana
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner - Addiction - 018
Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipstick - Bare It All 902c

Eyes
Maybelline Color Tattoo - Barely Branded
L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow - Endless Pear 899
L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow - Continuous Cocoa 891
L'Oreal Eye Shadow Single - Smooth Latte 812
Cover Girl Eye Enhancers - Mink 750
Sigma Highlighting Pencil - Matte
Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eye Liner Pencil - Espresso Last 02
Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara - Black
It's So BIG Mascara - Black

All of my eye shadows were singles.  If you don't have or want to buy these exact colors, use what you have.  You will need a light cream colored shadow.  Mine is a satin finish, a matte neutral mid toned brown, a mid toned shimmer brown, and a dark matte brown.  You may even have a palette that has these colors.  I did use quite a few colors, and layered them, but that is what will give the eyes dimension and warmth.

First, apply a base shade or primer.  I used the color tattoo.  I use these a lot.  Next, put the light cream (infallible shadow - pearl) color all over the lid and crease, but not the brow bone.  Take your mid tone matte color (L'Oreal single - smooth latte) in the crease all the way across to the inner corner.  Put your shimmery brown on the lid, from the center to the outer corner.  Use a flat brush, if you have it to pat on the color.  The inner corner of the lid should only have the light color.  Next, take your darkest shade (L'Oreal Infallible - Continuous Cocoa), and apply it to the outer v.  This would be the on the crease, from the outer corner to about a quarter of the way in.    Then take that down to the lash lines outer corner.  I used a very small definer brush for this, and then used a blending brush to blend the color out.  I use the small brush for more detailed application.  As always, blend out any harsh lines where the colors meet.  If you end up blending too much color out, just go back and apply a little more and then blend.  I usually have to do this on my lid.  I used my Sigma highlighting pencil on the brow bone.  I drew a line directly under my brow, starting at the arch and going down to the end.  I blended the pencil out with my ring finger, by just patting the color in.  I really enjoy this pencil a lot.  It has matte on one side, and shimmer on the other.  You could use a very light cream shadow here or a matte shadow.  I use those as well, but I do like this pencil better than anything else.  I used the liner on both the top and bottom lash line.  I also put it in my waterline.  This really defines the eye, and makes it more dramatic.  If you don't want to do that,  you can use a nude pencil there.  It will make the eyes appear more open and awake.  Rimmel Scandaleyes makes a great nude pencil.  If liner in the waterline bothers you, then just skip this step.  After the liner, I used a smudge brush to apply the darkest brown shadow over it.  This deepens the color, sets it, and gives a smokey look.  Just lightly tap the color on the liner and smudge out a bit.  Then, apply two of your favorite mascaras.  I did two or three coats of the It's So BIG Mascara, and a coat of the Cover Girl on the top lashes.  I did one coat on the bottom.  False lashes would also look great for this look on a night out.  This does take some time, so just give yourself a little extra.  It's worth it if you feel confident and beautiful, right?  Women should feel like that every day, in my opinion :)

I got to use several new products with this look, all that I will review at the end of the month.  I hope you try some new looks soon.  If you end up recreating any I have done, I would love to see a picture!  You can instagram it or send it to me via facebook or post it to the fan page.  If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.  You can leave them under the comments or on facebook.  I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend, and taking the time to do something for themselves!

Health Tip Of The Week -Make A Playlist

I know that it can be hard to stay motivated.  We need to do everything we can to encourage a healthy lifestyle.  One thing that really helps me is good music.  It seems like such a small thing, but it makes a huge difference.  I wouldn't be able to get half a workout in without a good playlist.  Good, upbeat music motivates me, makes me want to do more, go harder, and longer.  Just when I think I am completely spent, a good song can increase my endurance tremendously!  Take a little time to make a quick playlist of your favorite songs.  If you listen to spotify or pandora, they have workout playlists that you can search for.  I listen to different music depending on my workouts.  If you are having trouble making a playlist of your own, here are a few of my favorites:

Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake
Brass Monkey - Beastie Boys
So Excited - Janet Jackson
Let's Go All The Way - Sly Fox
Fighter - Christina Aguilera
Too Close - Alex Clare
It Takes Two - Rob Base
State Of Shock - The Jacksons
Shake Your Thang - Salt N Pepa
Girl On Fire - Alicia Keys
It's Tricky - Run DMC
Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace
Wild Side - Motley Crue
Blood Pollution - Steal Dragon
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
I will Not Bow - Breaking Benjamin

So, take a few minutes to make yourself a playlist.  You'll be so glad you did!
