Nails Of The Week - Sally Hansen Nail Affect - Application & Review

Sally Hansen Salon Affects - Gold Cabaret

This was my first time using these nails strips.  These are not the full size ones, they are the mani's, which come with two different stickers.  The first sticker is the half moon shape for the tip.  I was a little confused by this at first, because they were long strips with two different sections of the glitter.  Come to find out, they split in two.  So, you have one for that finger on each hand.

So, before you start, make sure you have removed all your old polish,  File and buff, if needed. I also like to push my cuticles back.   Then go back and do one more swipe on each nail to make sure there is no nail filings or debris on them.  Lay all your nail stickers out in front of you.  You will have to figure out which size you need for each nail.  Then, apply the half moon sticker where you would like it, smooth it out along the nail, and fold it around the end of the nail.  Next, use a file to lightly file away the excess sticker, and it will easily pull off.

After applying all the tips, you will have a full size clear strip, for each nail.  Choose the size that best fits your nail.  When applying, make sure you get as close to the cuticle as possible.  Then, smooth the strip out across the entire nail.  They provide a manicure stick to help you do this.  I did use it, and find it helpful.  Next, you wrap the excess strip around the end of the nail, and lightly file it off. The clear coat gives a nice shine to the nail, and makes the glitter tips really sparkle.

The kit comes with all the strips, file, mani stick, and instructions.  I did nail strips/stickers for the first time in July or August.  I was a little late to the game, because I wasn't sure I could do it.  If you haven't done it before, it will definitely take some getting used to.  These Sally Hansen strips I really like, and I will definitely use them again.  I think they give a professional look, with a fraction of the price of a mani at a salon.  Plus, I have natural nails.  A french mani that isn't gel only lasts a few days on me before chipping.  I think it is  waste of time and money.

Now, I don't find these hard to use at all, but they are time consuming, as are all nail strips.  I wouldn't do these if you are impatient, pressed for time, or don't have a steady hand.  It just won't come out looking well.  It took me a full hour of doing mine.  I sat at my vanity on saturday, while everyone was doing their own thing, I had coffee, and listened to the news.  I found it relaxing, but I can see where these won't be for everyone.  My mom would never have the patience to do something like this.  If you think about it though, you will spend a lot more time (and money) going to the salon.  You have drive time, wait time, time to actually get them done, and then a drive back home.  That can take 2 hours out of your day easily!  I would definitely recommend them to someone who has been wanting to try them, provided you have the time and patience to learn the application.

You can find these at your local discount, drug, or grocery store.  They retail for $11.99.

Review - ADORAtherapy "Smart" Mood Boost Collection

As most of you know, I have psoriasis, eczema, and extremely bad allergies.  I love fragrances and perfumes, but I have to be very careful, because some will break me out into a rash.  When I was approached by Beauty Stat, to test and review this new aromatherapy scent, by ADORAtherapy, I was delighted!  Their products are natural, and made with a blend of essential oils, that have mood boosting properties.  If I could have a better mood, by simply spraying and smelling this fragrance, what's not to love?!

I knew that by using essential oils in their products, I would not have an outbreak, but how does it smell?  The ADORAtherapy Smart Mood Boost Spray, is a balanced blend of lemon and grapefruit.  It has a light, clean, and refreshing scent.  It is not strong or overpowering in any way.  I immediately notice that I am more awake and alert, which is no small task for me!  I'm not the best sleeper, and tend to get very drowsy during the afternoon.  This scent perked me up, and made me feel like I could accomplish another task.  And if you ask me, that is better than turning to caffeinated beverages or energy drinks, for a mid day boost!  ADORAtherapy has even been featured on Dr. Oz's YOUbeauty website, as "Aromatherapy that really works".

Adoratherapy has several different lines.  Their Chakra Boost, which includes 7 roll on scents, their new Good Mood Boost, Stress Free Boost, Passion Boost, and the new Gal On The Go Mood Boost.  Gal On The Go Mood Boost, has 7 mood boosting sprays for the woman on the go.  Spray these anytime you need that extra "Boost"!

WIN SOME GREAT PRIZES FROM ADORATHERAPY!

If you pledge a certain amount today by going to their Indiegogo site by clicking HERE, ADORAtherapy will send you the following prizes

Pledge $5 or more - "Adore Yourself" wristband made of 100% silicone.
Pledge $15 or more - Gal On The Go Mood Boost in your choice of 7 scents

Face Of The Day - Neutral Smokey Eye & Raspberry Lip

Just a typical Monday of running errands, but I had so many new products to test for review, so I figured I'd throw as many on as possible.

Face:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation
Revlon Photo Ready Concealer - Light/Medium
Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Spot Eraser - Brightener
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - Creamy Beige
Pixi Beauty Bronzer - Summertime (for contour)
Cover Girl Instant Cheekbones Blush - 230 Refined Rose
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner - Enchanted
L'Oreal Le Gloss - Raspberry Flush

Eyes:

Maybelline Color Tattoo - Bad To The Bronze
Profusion Twinkle Twinkle Palette - Neutrals
L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes - Black Noir

This is the same type of palette I used for my last FOTD.  This is just the neutral version.  Again, these palettes were only ONE DOLLAR at Walgreens.  I think these shadows give a great look, and no one would ever guess that they were so inexpensive!

Step 1 - I applied the color tattoo on my lid, up to my crease.

Step 2 - I used the 5th color in the palette, the 2nd darkest shade, on my lid, with a flat eyeshadow brush.  I patted the color on.

Step 3 - I applied the 2nd color in the palette, in the crease from the center of the crease to the inner part of the crease.  I used a blending brush for this application.

Step 4 - I applied the 3rd color, the medium shade, in the crease from the center of the crease to the outer corner of the crease.  I used the same blending brush to apply

Step 5 - I applied the first color, the lightest shade, on the brow bone, under my eye brow,  I also applied it to the inner corner, as well.

I did not use any eyeliner for this look.  I lined my bottom lash line with shadow.  I applied the darkest shade of shadow, on the outer third of my lash line.  Next, I applied the medium shade to the center of my lash line.  Lastly, I used the lightest shade on the inner part of my lash line.  I used a smudge brush for this application.  If you look closely, you will see that the colors range from dark, on the outer corner, to light on the inner corner.  Blend the colors where they meet.

I applied 4 coats of mascara to my top lashes.  After two, I let them dry.  I did my eyebrows, and then applied two more coats.  I think I get a fuller look this way.  I applied two coats to the bottom lashes.  I spent the day with my mom, and she said - What lashes do you have on?  I really like them.  She was so surprised to realize I didn't have falsies on!   This is a new mascara for me, that I will review at the end of the month.

If you have any questions, please comment below or message me.  I hope everyone is having a great week!!

Product Review - Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation

I have used this foundation several times, so I have a good idea of it's performance.  I do have oily skin.  It can get very oily, especially in the t zone.  The stick does have a white core.  This is said to be a shine free core, and a gel formula.  It does apply very smoothly, not drying or heavy.  I had heard and read mixed reviews, so I was excited to give it a try.

I have never had a stick foundation before.  With this type of application, there is no mess, so I appreciate that.  If you use a liquid foundation without a pump, sometimes you can lose quite a bit of product in the application process.  My color matched my skin really well.  I did apply this with my Sigma F80 to blend.  This would also be a great foundation for travel, because of it's stick form.

The Fit Me Shine Free Stick has a medium to full coverage  It can be built up to full.  I used two layers, to achieve full coverage.  It has a satin to matte finish, depending on how oily your skin is.  I do like this foundation.  It did keep me from getting oily.  It gives a natural looking finish.  It didn't get cake or feel heavy on the skin.  Of course, all foundations will perform better over a good primer, which I used because I always use a primer.  This does not claim to be super long wearing or transfer resistant.  By the end of a full day and work out, it did start to break down, but I would say that is quite normal for most foundations that aren't long wearing.   I did set it with a small amount of powder, as I do all my foundations.

Overall, I think this is a good, inexpensive, everyday foundation for normal to oily skin.  If you have dry skin, it may stick to dry patches, so I would skip this to avoid looking cakey.  It will give you a more natural look.  This is NOT going to be your bulletproof, no smudge, 24 hour wear foundation.  Maybelline offers 12 shades.  It retails for $7 - 9.  You can find this at your local drug or discount store.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment or send me a message.

FOTD - Daytime Date

Products Used

Face:
Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick - 230 Natural Buff
Revlon Photoready Conealer - Light/Medium
Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Spot Eraser - Brightener
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - Creamy Beige
Pixi Beauty Bronzer - Summertime
Maybelline Fit Me Blush - Deep Wine
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner - Enchantment
Be A Bombshell Lip Crayon - Shameless

Eyes:
Profusion Twinkle Twinkle Palette - Purples
Em by Michelle Phan Mascara - Black

This was actually a very quick look that I put together for a date with my husband.  The Maybelline foundation is new for me, and I will be reviewing it this week.  The Bronzer, lip crayon, and mascara are all from my November Ipsy Bag.  I will review those as soon as I have used all the products.  What I am excited to tell you about is my eye shadow palette.  I found it at Walgreens for $1!!  That's right, ONE DOLLAR!!  Every year, you will find that many brands put out holiday gift collections and palettes.  I have bought Profusion before.  I actually found them 3 years ago.  Ond of my first reviews was on a Profusion palette that was 99 cents.  Now, I need to use this a few more times to give a thorough review, but the look came out well.  I need to test out the longevity though.

So, I will give you a step by step of what I did to achieve this smokey eye look.  First, you will need an eye lid primer.  You could also use a dark base on the lid, such as a fat eye pencil, or dark color tattoo.  If you use a pencil, apply it on the eyelid, and then smudge it out.  You want the shadow to have something to stick to.  The dark base will make the color a little darker.

The first shadow you want to apply is the darkest purple, the fourth color in the palette.  I used a flat shadow brush to tap this onto my lid.  Don't brush it across, because you could have a lot of fall out and you don't want the dark shadow to ruin the rest of your makeup.

Next, I used the lightest purple, second color in the palette, on my crease  I blended this up to the brow bone.  I used my E.L.F. blending brush for this.  I really like that brush and use it daily!  I focused on blending where the dark color and the crease color meets for a softer transition.

Then, I used the medium purple, third color in the palette on the very outer corner of the crease.  I used a crease brush for this part.  After applying, I went back to my E.L.F. blending brush to blend it a bit.

Lastly, I used the white under my brow bone and inner corner.

I did NOT use any eyeliner for this look.  I did line my bottom lash though.  I used a pencil brush and applied the darkest purple to the outer third of my bottom lash line.  I used the medium purple in the middle of my bottom lash line, and the lightest purple in the inner third of my bottom lash line.  This is a very simple look, and makes it more subtle for a day look.  If it were evening, I would have used a dark purple pencil with a dark purple shadow smudged over it on the entire bottom lash line.

I used three or four coats of black mascara.

This is an easy, but more dramatic look.  You don't have to use this same palette or these same colors.  Use what you like, but make sure you have four shades, that range from dark to light.  Just use the same technique.  I hope this helps you achieve the smokey eye that so many of us love.  If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section, or message me on fb or twitter.  I do my best to respond very quickly.

My outfit was simple, a pink gap long sleeve shirt and a gray sweater from express.  I love turquoise, so I wore a ring from QVC, and a pendant that is from Michael's.  I just put it on a silver chain that I already own.

Recipe Of The Week - Maui Black Bean Soup

I have been making this soup for years.  It is one of our favorite fall/winter soups.  My husband hates black beans and peppers, but even he likes this!

Ingredients

2 Tbsp Olive Oil
2 Ribs Celery, coarsely chopped
1 Big Carrot
1 Small Purple Onion, peeled and chopped
1 Red Pepper, seeded and chopped
1 Green Pepper, seeded and chopped
2 Cloves Garlic, minced
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Oregano
1 tsp Basil
1 tsp Chili Powder
4 Cups Low Sodium Chicken Broth
2-15 oz. Cans Black Beans, rinsed and drained
1-15 oz. Can Diced Tomatoes
1 Cup of Corn
Sea Salt & Black Pepper

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.  Add celery, carrot, onion, and bell peppers.  Saute until onions become translucent, about 8 minutes.  Add garlic and spices, cook another 2 minutes.

Add chicken stock, beans, and tomatoes.  Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat.  Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.  using a handheld blender, puree soup to desired consistency.  Add corn and let simmer for 5 minutes.  Season with salt and pepper.  Serve Hot.

Optional - I like to add a dollop of all natural low fat sour cream, sprinkle a little cheese on top, and eat with organic blue tortilla chips.

This polish came in a package of three.  This is the darkest color.  I thought it was great for fall/winter.  I bought these at TJ Maxx.  There are no names on the colors, and these are mini polishes.  So far, the staying power has been great, and they apply very opaque.  You could get away with one coat.

OOTD & FOTD - Using Mostly Wet N Wild Products!

If you think you have to spend a ton of money for a pretty makeup look....wrong!!  I always get asked about my makeup, and what brand I am wearing.  I wanted to show that you can get a great look for a whole lot less.

Outfit & Accessories

- Cardigan - St. John's Bay
-  Jeans - Levi's
-  T Shirt - The Gap
- Scarf - Street Vendor (NY)
- Boots - Carlos Santana
- Handbag - Miche
- Sunglasses - DG Eyewear (from tophatter.com)
- Beanie - Icing

With this makeup look, I used mostly Wet N Wild products.  Granted, I do think that quality brushes make a difference, but most of mine are real techniques brushes.  These used to only be sold online and at Ulta, but they are now available at Wal-Mart.

This entire eye look is Wet N Wild, except for the mascara.  I used the Wet N Wild Comfort Zone 8 Pan Palette, and Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeliner in Olive.

Here are all the products I used:

-  Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
-  Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick - 230 Natural Buff
-  Revlon Photoready Concealer - Light/Medium
-Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush - Berry Shimmer
-Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush - Heather Silk
-Wet N Wild 8 Pan Palette - Comfort Zone
-Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer - Reserve Your Cabana (used as highlighter)
-Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeliner - Olive
-Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Mascara - Black
-Maybelline The Rocket Volume Mascara - Black
-Wet N Wild Perfect Pair (lipliner & lipstick) - 123

Wet N Wild has been around for a long time, but I have to say, it is so much better than it used to be!  I haven't tried everything from the line, but these products I swear by.  So, give them a chance.  Even if you only find a few new products you like, it's worth it, and fun to experiment!

My Top Ten Products Under $5

1-  Wet N Wild 8 Pan Palettes

These palettes retail for only $4.99.  Three different palettes are always available, and they also do limited edition palettes, from time to time.  I have four palettes, and I love them all!  These compare to most high end palettes.  Great pigmentation and blendability.  They are so versatile.  I did a look of the day awhile back, using this very palette.  I showed my day look, and how I used the same palette for my evening look.  I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with these!!

2-  Wet N Wild 3 Pan Palettes

These shadows are like the 8 pan palettes, just smaller.  Same pigmentation and lasting quality.  The have many more palettes to choose from though.  All stores have different selections, but I have seen as many as 10.  They also release some limited edition versions of these from time to time.  My Target and Wal-Mart doesn't carry Wet N Wild, but all other drugstores and discount stores in my area do.  These retail for $2.99.

3-  Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volume

This mascara is shockingly good, especially for only $2.99!  It is  better than most drugstore mascaras, and many high end ones as well.  It gives great length and volume.  I have never recommended this mascara to someone, and they come back disappointed.  A high quality mascara, with no flaking or smearing, but they do not have a waterproof version.

4-  Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eye Liner

With ten shades to choose from, you are sure to find your perfect colors.  These are my favorite eyeliners EVER!  They are waterproof and smudge proof, yet are very creamy and easy to apply.  They are dermatologist and ophthamologist tested, so they are safe for sensitive eyes.  They retail between $4 and $5.

5-  Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush

These blushes are super pigmented, just like the Wet N Wild eyeshadow palettes.  They offer four different colors.  I love them all!  They blend beautifully and are long lasting.  They retail for $2.99.

6-  Cover Girl Instant Cheekbones Contouring Blush

I love these blushes, and have been wearing them since I was in high school.  They have 3 shades so you can have a nicely contoured look, that adds depth and definition.  These have nice pigmentation and blendability.  There are 4 different colors to choose from.  They retail for around $4.99.

7-  E.L.F. Eyelid Primer

Now, I was skeptical when I purchased this.  An eyelid primer for $1?  That works?  Please!  But it truly does!  This primer makes my eye looks stay in place without creasing, just as good as any other primer.  If you have a problem with your eyeshadow creasing and fading, give it a try!  E.L.F. can be found at Target, and most recently Meijer's.  If you don't have either store close to you, go to www.eyeslipsface.com

8-  E.L.F. Baked Shadow Single

E.L.F. offers six colors of baked shadows.  These are such beautiful colors, that give two different looks.  A more subtle color, when dry, and a deeper, richer color when wet.  These are also great to wet and use as a liner.  You are essentially getting 3 different products in one!  These retail for $3.

9-  Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish - Clear

This is the only color show polish I have ever used.  I bought this at Target awhile back on clearance. I Love it, as a top coat on my polish.  It really extends my color without chipping.  This is my very favorite top coat.  Theses retail for $3 - $4.

10-  Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipstick

These are long lasting, matte lipsticks.  I really like matte lipsticks, and they aren't super easy to find. Wet N Wild offers several colors for only $1.99.  I put a lip balm under all my lipsticks, so this isn't too drying for me, but matte shades aren't as moisturizing as a glossier lipstick.

If you think that you can't find inexpensive quality products, give some of these a try!

October Purchases & Review

-  Cover Girl Cheekers - 117 Plum Plush
I wanted a new plum blush for fall, and this one is a beautiful color, with great pigmentation.  I bought this same brand in September as well.  They offer many colors at a great price.

-  The Balm Nude 'Tude Palette
I am new to The Balm line.  I bought two palettes when they were having a 50% off sale.  This palette has a mix of matte and shimmer shadows.  You could do many looks with this palette.  It is very versatile, and would work equally well for a daytime or evening look.  These colors are not drying, and blend nicely.  I would definitely recommend it.

-  The Balm Meet Matte Nude
I bought this palette, because finding one with all matte shades is hard.  Sometimes, I just don't want shimmer, especially when I am doing a more natural day look.  There are a great range of colors, that allow you to do many different looks, day or night.  Matte shadows typically are a bit drier, but these are nice and blend well.

- Ardell Natural Lashes - 110 Demi, 101 Demi, 120 Demi, 116, and 117
I found a great sale on lashes at my local Kroger, so I couldn't pass these up!  I love Ardell.  They are so comfortable, and offer a variety of different looks.  I'll be sure to use these in some upcoming looks.

-  Revlon Photoready Concealer - Light Medium 003
This is a repurchase for me.  The concealer has great coverage, and is creamy.  I'm always trying new products, so there are few things that I go back and repurchase, unless they are really great!

-  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - Black Cherry 477 (creme finish)
I love these super lustrous lipsticks.  I have several and keep repurchasing.  I wanted a dark vampy color for the colder months.  This is definitely an evening color, even for me.  I haven't used this in a look yet, but when I do, I will do a more neutral eye. These are so soft and comfortable on the lips!

-  Wet N Wild Coloricon 8 Pan Eyeshadow Palette - Nude Awakening
I was looking for this limited edition palette for so long!  I was so happy to find it at Rite-Aid at half off.  That made it only $2.50.  This palette is just as good as higher end neutral palettes.  I love Wet N Wild Shadows!

-  Wet N Wild Perfect Pair Lip Wand & Crayon - 123 Passion Plum
This lip product was new to me, but I am so happy I found it!  Great pigmentation.  It's a liner and lip crayon in one, so it is especially great to throw in your bag for the day.  You have everything you need in one!

-  Ecotools Recycled Retractable Kabuki Brush
I was looking for a powder brush, because mine was always losing bristles on my face.  I really like this one.   It is dense, but not hard.  It has a cap and is great for travel or to throw in your purse.  It hasn't lost any bristles, applies the powder with medium coverage

-  Garnier BB Cream For Oily/Combination Skin - Light/Medium
I really like this BB Cream.  I previously posted a full review.  Check it out, if you are interested in a new BB cream.

I was really happy with everything I purchased this month.  No fails for me.  Please, let me know if there are any new products that you would like to see a full review on.  Enjoy your week!
