September Ipsy Bag & Review

My September Products

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
It's So BIG Mascara - Black
NYX Eye Shadow - Sparkling White
Starlooks Kohl Eye Pencil - Obsidian

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo & Conditioner
This was the first time that I ever used this product.  Let me say, that I have been using Wen for a year and love it!  If I had to give up a beauty product, Wen would be the last to go.  My hair has never been healthier or more manageable.  I washed my hair twice with the shampoo, and then let the conditioner sit on for the duration of my shower.  Was my hair clean?  Of Course, but it did not seem conditioned or repaired in any way.  When I combed out my hair, it was so tangled.  I know that hair is most fragile when it is wet, so I wasn't happy trying to get knots out.  When styling, my hair didn't have the volume or manageablility that it usually does.  There may be some people who enjoy this product, but compared to my Wen, it's very bad.

It's So BIG Mascara
Another product that I had never used.  I really don't like using these small sample mascaras because the wand is small and hard to hold, at least for me.  This formula was a little too wet for my taste initially, but after a few weeks, it dried out and I liked it much better.  It did lengthen and add some volume, but nothing extraordinary or impressive.  I found it to be a regular mascara, not good or bad.  It's okay.  It doesn't compare to my favorite drugstore mascaras.  I may use this from time to time, just to use it up, but I won't purchase this.

NYX Eye Shadow - Sparkling White
I like the NYX brand.  I think they have great products for a great price.  This shadow is good as well.  The color is good, but I wish it was a matte instead of a shimmer.  White or very light colors, I use on my brow bone and inner corner.  I don't like shimmer on my brow bone, only matte, so I can only use this on my lid or inner corner.  This color isn't super shimmery, but it does have some sparkle.  I wouldn't choose this color, but I like the shadow.  I would definitely purchase these in other colors.  You can find NYX at Ulta, and recently some Target stores have started carrying them.

Starlooks Kohl Eye Pencil - Obsidian
I have used Starlooks before, but I have a lip liner.  I got that in an Ipsy Bag, as well.  I have to say, I like the lip liner better.  This is a good enough black liner, but nothing special.  It isn't waterproof or long wearing.  I like Jordana 24 hour liners and Rimmel Scandaleyes much better.  I would not purchase this product.

I like the look of the Ipsy Bag itself this month, but I have to say, I was a little disappointed with most of my products.  I am always so happy with it, but this month was a bit of a let down.  Three of my friends got their first Ipsy Bag this month, because of my suggestion.  So, I wish this month would have been better.  I'm not sure how they feel about the products they received, but all of my previous bags were much better.

Face Of The Day - Day To Night

I did this look on a day where I was very busy.  I started out at 7:30 am, and didn't get home till about midnight.  I wanted a neutral day look, that I could also transition in to evening without much effort.

Day Look

Face

Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation
Revlon Photo Ready Concealer
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Spot Eraser - Neutralizer
Tarte Mineral Powder Bronzer - Hotel Heiress
Cover Girl Cheekers - Golden Pink
Milani Baked Blush - Luminoso
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Milani Color Statement Lipstick - Nude Creme

Eyes

L'Oreal Color Tattoo - Barely Branded
MAC - Mystery
MAC - Satin Taupe
MAC - Soft Brown
MAC - Creme Brûlée
Starlooks Kohl Eye Pencil - Obsidian
Ardell Lashes - #116
Maybelline The Rocket Mascara - Black
Duo Lash Glue - Clear

For the evening, the only thing I changed was my lipstick.  I used Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria, and Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Lilac Love.

For this eye look, I used the color tattoo as my base.  I applied Satin Taupe (medium to dark brown with shimmer) on my lid.  I applied Soft Brown in the crease, and Mystery (dark brown) in the V.  To get the V, put the color in the outer third of the crease, and bring it diagonally down to the outer lash line.  It makes a sideways V.  Then, I applied Creme Brûlée to the brown bown, under eyebrows, and the inner corner and tear duct.  I lined upper and lower lash line with eye pencil, and then used Mystery (dark brown shade), over the liner and smudged it out.  I curled my lashes, applied false lashes, and finished my top and bottom lashes with mascara.

September Purchases & Review

I have to say, this was a pretty good month of purchases.  I tried a lot of new things, and really liked most of them.

-  Nivea Lip Butter - Raspberry Rose Kiss
I really like this lip butter!  It is super moisturizing, but not greasy.  I use this every night before bed, and under my lipsticks.  It gives a hint of color.

-  E.L.F. Baked Shadow - Bark and Burnt Plum
I first bought one of these a few months back.  I loved it so much, that I had to go back for more.  These are very pigmented and blend well as a shadow or  you can wet it to make the color even deeper.  These are also great as an eyeliner.  They are only $3.  You can buy them at Target and Meijer.

-  Wet N Wild Megalast Lipstick - Think Pink, Dollhouse Pink, and Bare It All
These are great matte lipsticks!  The colors are very pigmented, yet aren't drying.  I have liked all of the colors I have bought, and they are long lasting.  A great product, especially for $1.99.  I will definitely be purchasing more.

-  Wet N Wild Fergie Center Stage Collection Eye Shadow Quad - A029 Desert Festival
Great fall palette.  I posted a look using this palette only.  Like all Wet N Wild shadows, these are very pigmented and blend out easily.  These are high end quality, at a low end price.  They do have several other palettes, some of which are limited edition, though I have not tried any others.  Below is the look I created with this palette.

-  Maybelline Eye Studio Eye Shadow Quad - Mad For Mauve and Legendary Lilac
These palettes have been out for a long time, I'm not sure why I never picked one up until now.  They have many different palettes, so everyone is sure to find something they like.  These shadows are nicely pigmented, creamy (for a powder), and blend out well.  These shadows are shimmery, no mattes.  Below is the look I created with the Lilac Palette.

-  Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil - 06 Jade Jewel. 01 Black Point, 02 Espresso Last
These are a newer Jordana product, and they are great!  If you are a regular reader of the blog, you know I love my Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Liner.  These are a great dupe for them, and they are a few dollars cheaper.  They glide on with a creamy texture.  Very pigmented and long lasting.  They will stay put even in your waterline.  I will definitely buy more colors.  You can find these at Walgreens.

-  Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation -342
I had heard great things about this foundation, so when I ran out of my Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation, I thought I would try it.  I really like it!  It has great coverage with a satin to matte finish.  It is lightweight, and very comfortable on the skin.  Great staying power as well!  Cover Girl products are very hit and miss for me, but this one is definitely a hit!  I wore this all month in all of the looks I posted.  There are 10 shades to choose from.  I will definitely buy this again.

-  Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch - Nude
I heard good things about this product, so I tried it out.  I wasn't in love.  It's ok.  Nothing wrong with it.  It does brighten up the under eye area, but not nearly as well as the Maybelline Dark Spot Eraser in Brightener.  I will use it until it is gone, but I don't see myself repurchasing it.

-  Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm - 260
I hadn't heard of this product or heard anyone talk about it.  I had a coupon, so I decided to try it out.  I really liked it.  There are similar products, such as the Revlon Bitten and Jordana Twist & Shine.  These are very comfortable and hydrating on the lips.  They have a good selection of colors, 16 in total.  I would purchase more of these.

-  Sephora Precision Smudge Brush #29 - I had been looking for a pencil brush for the longest time, and every time I was out, they were either sold out or really expensive.  I do like this one.  I use it to smudge my liner or shadow on my lash line.  I also use to on the outer v to deepen the color before blending it out.  It is good for concentrating the color in a particular area.  I also use it sometimes for a cut crease.  I don't have a pencil brush to compare it to, because this is my first.  It was pricey at $18.  I would have tried a cheaper alternative, had I been able to find one.

-  M.A.C Quad - Mystery, Satin Taupe, Soft Brown, Brûlée
This is my first MAC quad.  I just wanted an everyday palette of neutrals, that I could use for many looks.  It has turned out to be just that!  Great colors that blend out easily.  They would flatter any skin or eye color.  If I had to choose just one, I would go with the Soft Brown.  I love this color as a crease/transition color.  Very Versatile.

-  Trend Tips Real Lacquer Strips Sephora by O.P.I. - Snake Sparkle, Pink and Black Lace, and Gray Lace
This is my first time using any sort of nail strip.  They weren't the easiest to apply, but once I got used to it, it went much faster.  I really like the designs that I got.  They say they last for 10 days.  I have now had mine on for 11 days, and still NO CHIPS!!  I definitely see these lasting for 14 days.  When you try these, make sure you have plenty of time to apply.  They do take some time.  Make sure you do not pull on the strip when you are bending it around the tip.  It will mess up the design.  I simply bent the strip around the tip, and went back and forth over it with my finger.  I then lightly used a file to remove it.  Make sure you follow the directions.  These are so great and long lasting, that I don't know if I will want to use polish for awhile.

-  Sally Hansen Salon Effects - 360 Laced Up
Because my trendy tips have lasted so long, I haven't tried these.  I will post my review when I do these for my nails of the week.

-  L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Lingerie - Chateau You Go
I haven't been able to use these yet, for the same reason.  Will post review with nails of the week

-  Ardell Lashes - 105 Black
Great Lashes!  I love these!  They have a natural, yet dramatic look.  I wore these in two posts.  The cat eye & Berry Lip look, as well as the smokey eye & nude lip look.  I will definitely purchase more of these.

-  Cover Girl Cheekers - 170 Golden Pink
I have bought these before, but I don't think it has been since high school.  I wanted a deeper fall shade, to go with some of my new palettes.  This is a very pretty color, that is universally flattering.  I have been wearing it a lot, because it looks good with everything.  Great blush at a great price, and nice selection of colors.

-  Rimmel Stay Glossy Lip Gloss - 540 Timeless Allure
Looking for a fall lipgloss, I picked up one of the new Rimmel glosses.  These are glossy, not sticky, and long lasting.  They also have a great selection of colors, 18 in total.  I really love this color.  Perfect for fall!

Health Tip Of The Week - Change It Up

It is good to get into a routine of working out.  Most people do well, if they workout the same days of the week at the same time every week.  It just becomes a habit.  What isn't good is doing the same workout day in and day out.

At first, you will notice changes in your strength, endurance, and weight loss.  After some time though,  all of that usually seems to slow down.  Once people don't notice results, they will likely stop the exercise.  The changes stop or slow down, because the body is easily adaptable.  It doesn't take long before what used to be hard, is now easy.  You won't have to exert the same amount of energy, because your body knows what to expect and how to react.  Thus, leading to burning fewer calories.  Not only that, but doing the same thing everyday, leads to boredom.

So, what can you do to keep your body guessing, and burning optimum calories?  Change your routine!  You can do this in many ways.  Find a new class, or exercise that you really enjoy, and start incorporating that into your routine.  If you always do the treadmill for 30 minutes, at 3.5 mph, incorporate HIIT (high intensity interval training).  These are short bursts of a high intensity exercise.  For example, 30 - 60 seconds of running, or hill climbs.  You then return to your previous level, before doing the same interval again.  Your heart rate will be going up and down, which will be burning more calories.  I like to do a 2/1 ratio.  If I run for 1 minute, I walk for two.  You can also do this with weight training.  After a set of 3, I will do a 1 min cardio interval, such as running, burpees, boxing, or jump rope.  Don't just change up your intensity, change up the exercises, reps, sets, and weight as well.  Just don't change all of those things at once.  Focus on one change per workout.....and ladies, with weights, don't be afraid of them!  Don't be afraid of lifting heavy either.  You won't end up looking like The Hulk.  Most of my workouts are weight training.  I would never have the shape I desired, if I did cardio only.

So, how often should you change up your routine?  I do a different routine everyday, but I would at least change it up every two weeks.  So, keep boredom at bay, and keep that body giving you the results you desire and are working so hard for!

My Top Ten Fall Lipsticks

So excited to do this post because I love all things Fall (well, almost.....not the allergies)!  I love the clothes...boots, scarves, layering, and jackets.  I love the food, decorations, farmer's markets, and of course, MAKEUP!  I am always excited for deeper lip colors, and eye colors.  I put in a couple nudes, because you need those no matter what season.  All are lipsticks, except one.  I have one balm stain.  Some of these may be a little out of your comfort zone, but it is always fun to try something new.  It's just makeup.  If you don't like it, you can always take it off.  So, here are my favorites.....

Milani Color Statement - 26 Nude Creme
L'Oreal Colour Riche - 800 Fairest Nude
Revlon Super Lustrous - 463 Sassy Mauve
Revlon Super Lustrous - 660 Berry Haute
M.A.C. - Up The Amp
Maybelline Colorsensational - 405 Yummy Plummy
Maybelline Colorsensational - 065 Hooked On Pink
Milani Color Statement - 20 Uptown Mauve
Milani Color Statement - 21 Sangria
Jordana Twist & Shine - Cranberry Crush

Here are alll the swatches.  Starting with the Milani Creme Nude, and ending with the Jordana Twist & Shine.

Milani Color Statement - Creme Nude

L'Oreal Colour Riche - Fairest Nude

Revlon Super Lustrous - Berry Haute

MAC - Up The Amp

Maybelline Color Sensational - Yummy Plummy

Maybelline Color Sensational - Hooked On Pink

Rimmel Color Statement - Uptown Mauve

Rimmel Color Statement - Sangria

Jordana Twist & Shine - Cranberry Crush

As you can see, these are all beautiful colors.  The only one that isn't a "lipstick," is the last one.  It is a balm stain.  It can be applied more sheerly.  I made it more opaque, so it would show up better in pictures.  You can see with the pictures below, how much a lip color can change your entire look.  The only difference in the makeup, is the lipstick.  So, try something a little new and unexpected.  It will definitely spice up your look for fall!

LOTD - Smokey Eye & Nude Lip

I used several new products with this look.  I will review all of them at the end of the month.  All are drugstore.

Face

Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation
Maybelline Dark Spot Eraser - Neutralizer
Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer - Nude
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer - Sunny
Cover Girl Cheekers - Golden Pink
Wet N Wild Coloricon - Reserve Your Cabana
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Pencil - Addiction
L'Oreal Colour Rich - Fairest Nude

Eyes

E.L.F. Eyelid Primer
Wet N Wild Fergie Center Stage Collection - Desert Festival
Sigma Highlighting Pencil - Matte
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner - 003 Brown
Ardell lashes - #101
It's So BIG Mascara - Black

This was a very easy palette to use.  I enjoyed it.  I used the light orange on my lid, the darker orange I used in my crease.  Then, I used the middle brown shade on the outer corner of the crease.  I applied the dark brown shimmer shade also on the outer v to darken that up a bit more.  I used the lightest shad under my brow and in the inner corner.  I applied the Sigma highlighting pencil under my brow, from my arch to the end.  I lined my upper and lower lashes with my brown rimmel pencil.  I applied the brown shade, in the middle of the palette, over the shadow and smudged it to smoke it out.  The Ardell lashes really finished the look, and added a little drama.  I think this is a great palette for fall!

Recipe Of The Week - Chicken Soft Tacos

This is a super easy recipe, perfect for a busy week.  It is really good too!

Ingredients

-  1 - 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast
-  14 1/2 oz. can low sodium diced tomatoes with green chilles
-  1 envelope low sodium taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup water

1.  Place chicken in slow cooker
2.  Pour in water
3.  Mix tomatoes and taco seasoning, and pour over chicken
4.  Cover and cook on low for 6 -8 hours.
5.  Serve in whole wheat or whole grain tortillas or taco shells.  Top with salsa, low fat shredded cheese, fresh tomatoes, and guacamole.

Per Serving - 100 calories, 2.5 g total fat, 50mg cholesterol, 300 mg sodium, 2g carbs, protein 18g

*Another idea, if you want, make up some brown or long grain rice and make a chicken taco bowl.
